Prayer Rally Coverage in the Baptist Newspaper
We are grateful to The Alabama Baptist newspaper for covering the recent ALCAP Prayer Rally! It is a privilege to represent Alabama churches at the State House through our ministry work.
Conservative Legislation Moving in Alabama
| The legislative session continues to progress forward, with several notable bills making headway in this third week. Child Predator Death Penalty Act (HB41 / SB17): These companion House and Senate bills by Rep. Matt Simpson (Daphne) and Sen. April Weaver (Pelham) would make the rape of a child under the age of 12 a capital offense. This legislation targets the most extreme offenders and spells out the seriousness of crimes against children, such as some of the horrific incidents that occurred in 2025. Status: The House version, HB 41, has passed out of the House on January 27th and is now in the Senate Judiciary committee (link to interview below); the Senate version remains under committee consideration. |
Social Media and App Age Verification Bills (HB171 / HB161): These bills focus on online safety for minors. HB171 by Rep. Ben Robbins (Sylacauga) would require age verification or parental consent for minors to access algorithm-driven social media feeds and would limit late-night notifications. HB161 by Rep. Chris Sells (Greenville) would require app stores to implement age verification and parental consent before minors can download apps.
Status: HB 171 has been introduced and referred to the House Children and Senior Advocacy committee, where it currently awaits further action.
HB 161 passed the House floor unanimously on the 21st. It was then passed out of the Senate Children and Youth Health committee on January 28th, and now goes to the full Senate floor for consideration.
| Prohibiting the Sexual Grooming of Children (HB105): This bill by Rep. Mark Gidley (Gadsden) prohibits the sexual grooming of children and provides penalties. Status: The bill passed the House on January 27th (pictured above) and has been sent to the Senate in the Judiciary committee. Increasing Penalties for the Promotion of Prostitution (HB 158): Sponsored by Rep. Ron Bolton (Northport), this is an anti-prostitution and human trafficking bill that changes the penalty for promoting prostitution from a misdemeanor to a felony. It is also changes the penalty for soliciting prostitution from a misdemeanor to a felony if the person solicited is a victim of human trafficking. Status: The bill made it past the House Judiciary committee on the 21st and now heads to whole House body for consideration. |
Prohibiting Human Cloning (HB 111): This bill by Rep. Phillip Rigsby (Huntsville) would create the crime of human cloning and require that a violation is a Class C felony.

The Laken Riley Act (HB 13): This bill by Rep. Ernie Yarborough (Trinity) permits state and local law enforcement to work directly with federal agencies to enforce immigration laws to help remove illegal immigrants with criminal histories.
Status: The bill passed the House Judiciary on January 28th and now heads the House floor for consideration by the whole body.
Prohibiting the Disruption of a Worship Service (HB 363): This bill by Rep. Greg Barnes (Jasper) creates a specific offense for intentionally disrupting a church worship service or harassing worshippers, including actions on church property meant to block entry or exit. Violators would be charged with disruption of a worship service. To hear more about this issue, and recent example from Minnesota, check out the podcast below.
Status: The bill was introduced in the House on January 29th and referred to the Public Safety and Homeland Security committee.
Protecting Children From Marijuana Smoke (HB 72): This bill by Rep. Patrick Sellers
(Pleasant Grove) makes smoking marijuana in a car with a child a Class A misdemeanor, requires offenders to take an education course, and mandates reporting and investigation of violations. It also requires public education on the dangers of exposing children to marijuana smoke.
Status: The bill passed the House floor on January 29th (pictured), and now heads to the Senate Judiciary committee.
