ALCAP President and Priority Talk Radio Host Greg Davis joined with Alabama State Representative Mark Gidley to discuss two of his bills, which focus on bringing or allowing the 10 Commandments and trained chaplains into public schools.
Starting with the 10 Commandments, Rep. Gidley shared, “Recapturing the foundation of our nation is extremely important… [this bill will help] to restore and return back to the foundation of who we are.”
Rep. Mark Gidley believes that America has been separated from its core identity and history. The progressive left has successfully masked the influence that Christianity has had in this country, and he seeks to change that through restoring the 10 Commandments to American public life.
“We are not placing something in our schools and public places, we are returning back what has been removed… [The 10 Commandments] were there, they’ve always been there,” Gidley explained.
Moving to the topic of chaplains in public schools, Rep. Gidley said, “Our teachers and administrators in our schools deal with a lot today… There is a lot of pressure. We are losing teachers, we are losing administrators simply because of the pressures they deal with. The idea behind the school chaplains bill is to provide a resource for our teachers and administrators… so they have a confidential, non-partisan resource that they can go to that they can share their concerns or any struggles they are going through.”
Rep. Mark Gidley stressed that this bill is not trying to get religious people into schools for evangelistic reasons. These chaplains must be trained and licensed. There is a professional purpose, which is to be a resource for teachers and administrators.
