ALCAP President and Priority Talk Radio Host Greg Davis visited with State Representative Mack Butler from Etowah County to discuss Butler’s bill aimed at ending the indoctrination and sexualization of children in public schools.
House Bill (HB) 244 is summarized in the following way: “Under existing law, classroom instruction or discussions regarding gender identity or sexual orientation may not be provided to public school students in kindergarten through fifth grade in a manner that is not age or developmentally appropriate or is not in accordance with state standards.
“This bill would prohibit classroom instruction or discussions related to gender identity or sexual orientation from being provided to public school students in prekindergarten through twelfth grade.”
Additionally, the bill would prohibit pride flags (and similar insignia) on school property and the use of biologically incorrect pronouns for students.
“There is a group that is bent on the sexualization of our children. They are exposed to way too much too early as it is already. But it’s sad that a few radical teachers are incorporating it into the classrooms,” Butler said.
Rep. Mack Butler expressed that the political winds are favorable in this season, with the new presidential administration. In fact, he said that this bill mirrors the executive order that President Trump signed at the federal level. It is much easier to pass legislation when political leadership at both levels is similarly-minded.
Greg Davis brought up an important point of clarification during the conversation. These inappropriate topics may not be brought up by the teachers. Students, however, are free to ask the questions they would like. This is not censoring a student’s desire to learn, which is often the accusation made by progressive activists.
