On Monday, April 3rd, ALCAP President and CEO Greg Davis welcomed State Representative Ginny Shaver (R-Leesburg) onto Priority Talk Radio to discuss House Bill 101 (HB101), which would make the adoption process faster and more streamlined.
“The adoption code had not been touched in 30 years, so it was very outdated. I had some ideas about how to improve adoption. I had other Representatives talk to me about their ideas, as well,” she said.
The 80-page bill separates and clarifies adult adoption from minor adoption, handles and streamlines court procedures, shortens the process of handling situations involving the termination of parental rights, and more.
“It’s a total replacement of the adoption code,” Shaver said.
The House was unanimous in passing the bill, voting 105-0. It will now head to the Senate.
