On Wednesday (Oct. 9th), Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen called into ALCAP President Greg Davis’ radio show Priority Talk to share important voting information with Alabama residents:
The 2024 General Election is on November 5th. To vote, you must be registered. The deadline to register is October 21st. You can register through Alabama Votes (https://www.sos.alabama.gov/alabama-votes). You’ll need a valid Alabama driver’s license or the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number. Also, some people may need to update their voter registration information (for example, if they’ve moved). You may do that as well on the site mentioned above.
When it comes to absentee voting, the office of the Absentee Election Manager must receive mail-in absentee ballot applications by Tuesday, October 29th, while the deadline to return an absentee ballot application in-person is Thursday, October 31st. The absentee ballots that are returned by mail must be received by the Absentee Election Manager no later than noon on election day (November 5th). Absentee ballots being returned in-person must be received by close of business on the day before the election (November 4th) by the office of the Absentee Election Manager.
It is important to remember that all of this is done in partnership with the United States Postal Service (USPS), and this must be kept in mind when participating in absentee voting.
