On Friday, April 28th, ALCAP President and CEO Greg Davis talked with Alabama State Senator Larry Stutts (Tuscumbia) on Priority Talk Radio about his current school choice bill – The PRICE ACT. Sen. Stutts said that he has been motivated for a long time to improve Alabama’s education system, and has researched how to do so.
“When I first started in the legislature 8 years ago, I was determined that one of the things we needed to improve dramatically across the state is education. So I have honestly spent a lot of time looking at all sorts of parameters of how you measure student achievement and what constitutes a good teacher and what constitutes a good school,” he said.
They proceeded to discuss the importance of parental involvement, the difficulty of passing a school choice bill, and the current obstacles to passing the PRICE Act in the State Legislature. While there are people out there who disagree with the PRICE Act, Larry Stutts is confident that this bill will help Alabama.
“I’m not going to say the PRICE Act is perfect as far as a school choice bill, but it is awfully close,” Stutts said.
