ALCAP President Greg Davis visited with Dr. George Barna on Priority Talk Radio to discuss the sixth annual study conducted by the Cultural Research Center (CRC) at Arizona Christian University. His research reveals that American adults have dramatically redefined the very nature and existence of God, contributing to widespread worldview confusion and a significant shift away from the God of the Bible. They also discussed cultural and religious shifts and trends in 2025.
Sometimes, Christians assume that when people talk about the idea of god/God, they are referencing the God of the Bible. This is not true.
“What we are finding out in this research: It’s actually a minority of Americans now who believe that the God of the Bible exists and has influence on people’s lives,” Barna said.
From his surveys, Dr. Barna says that there are actually around 16 or 17 deities that Americans believe in. From a Christian standpoint, these would be false idols. In addition to this, Americans pick and choose various aspects of different religions to create their own personal religion. Dr. George Barna calls this practice Syncretism, and over 90% of Americans hold to this “religion.”
Comparatively, “Biblical Theism (or the biblical worldview)… claims only a 4% share of the nation’s worldview pie.“
