Reducing Vaping Among Youth and Young Adults

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)

In 2019, more than five million, or 28 percent, of high school students reported nicotine vaping in the past 30 days, a significant increase from 2018 (21 percent) and more than double the rates in 2017 (12 percent). Evidence suggests that some youth who would not otherwise use nicotine or tobacco products are vaping.

SAMHSA developed a guide that discusses effective programs and policies to prevent vaping among youth and young adults, challenges to reducing e-cigarette use and vaping, and program and policy implementation strategies that can be used to address those challenges.
