In recent years, there has been a growing number of highly successful Christian films that present a high quality alternative to content that conflicts with family values. In a recent interview, ALCAP president Greg Davis interviewed film producer Michael Scott for the 15th anniversary of the film What If which will be having a special commemorative re-release in theaters.
The film was one of the early successes of the Christian film genre and chronicled the story of God working in the life of a businessman, played by Kevin Sorbo. In the interview, Michael shared about the background of the film and how the success of this film ultimately led to other films in the broader growth of Christian films that we have seen since the early 2000s.
Many Christian families are constantly looking for films that can be edifying and build up their faith. Greg Davis took the opportunity after the interview to highlight some new films that are coming out. This includes I Can Only Imagine 2, which is a sequel to the I Can Only Imagine film produced by the Alabama-native Irwin Brothers. Another promising film is Soul on Fire, the powerful story of a young man who suffered severe burns in a childhood house fire but was able to overcome adversity and put forward a powerful testimony and minister to others.
Films can be a powerful tool for ministry and it’s exciting to see this avenue continually being expanded to tell powerful and redemptive stories. We were excited to interview Michael Scott and look forward to the film being re-released soon.
