Greg Davis recently visited with Alabama Policy Institute (API) President Stephanie Smith on Priority Talk Radio to discuss their launch of the Alabama Department of Government Efficiency (ALDOGE), a program inspired by the creation of the national DOGE program led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.
“Outside the scope of government, we are going to take a fine-tooth comb and go through state budgets, state agencies, spending trends, revenue trends, regulations––where the red tape is––and try to figure out how to make the state of Alabama a more efficient government.”
She credits incoming President Trump for empowering intelligent people, such as Musk and Ramaswamy, to get involved politically and for thinking outside the box to improve the federal government, and this thinking has trickled down to Alabama.
Unlike President Trump’s DOGE, API will not recruit billionaires to run ALDOGE and instead is opting to oversee the initiative in-house. Also, Stephanie Smith says that they will involve everyday citizens of Alabama to help:
“We’re also going to rely on the public to point out things to us. We already have a link on our website where people can put in information about things that they see. If you see waste, if you see an inefficiency, if you see something that you think needs to change, you can tell us and we will try to run it down and figure out the best practices on how to make things more efficient.”
